Accounting policies4.1 Revenue and expense recognitionSales of goodsRevenue from sale of goods is recognised at the point in time when control of the asset is transferred to the customer, generally upon delivery of the goods. Revenue is measured at the amount of the consideration received or receivable, excluding value added tax, of goods supplied after deducting returns and discounts. When a contract provided a customer with a right to return the goods within a specified period, the Group recognises the amount ultimately expected they will have to return to customers as a refund liability and recognise the right to recover the goods expected to be returned by customers as a right of return asset in the statement of financial position. The asset is measured at the former carrying amount of the inventory, less any expected costs to recover the goods, including any potential decreases in the value of the returned goods. Rental incomeRental income from merchandising space on BTS Skytrain stations and MRT Yellow Line stationsare recognised based on a straight-line basis over the lease term.Rendering of servicesService income from electronic book rights is recognised at a point in time when the Group renders services to the customer.Other incomeManagement income is recognised when services have been rendered, with reference to the term of the contract.DividendsDividends are recognised when the right to receive the dividends is established. Financial income Interest income is calculated using the effective interest method and recognised on an accrual basis. The effective interest rate is applied to the gross carrying amount of a financial asset.Finance cost Interest expense from financial liabilities at amortised cost is calculated using the effective interest method and recognised on an accrual basis.
